Volunteers Needed - Elwha River Planting
Join our partner, the Lower Elwha Klallam Tribe, to plant trees and shrubs along the Elwha River throughout the former Lake Mills reservoir. This planting will help restore native vegetation still being established following removal of the Glines Canyon Dam in 2014. This is an incredibly rare opportunity, with very limited capacity. It will be a physically challenging day, volunteers will need to hike a total of 2 miles to get to a vehicle on the other side of the washed out Olympic Hot Springs Road, carpool with LEKT staff to the planting area, then hike a return trip of 2 miles back to their vehicle.
LOCATION: Madison Falls parking lot in west Port Angeles (specific parking details will be sent prior to the event)
DATE/TIME: March 21 (Tuesday) from either 9:30AM to 12:30PM or 1:00PM to 4:00PM (participants can also sign up for both shifts for a whole day of planting)
ADDITIONAL DETAILS:
Waterproof boots with good traction are recommended.
Some planting tools will be available for use, but volunteers are encouraged to bring their own if available.
Volunteers should also plan to bring gloves, raingear, water and snacks and be prepared to hike a total of 4 miles.
REGISTRATION is REQUIRED as space is very limited.
